Qualifying Requirements
To qualify for LIHEAP the household must be at or below 130% of the federal poverty level. All households will be required to bring documentation, including but not limited to proof of income for the previous month, social security cards for all household members, proof of 911 address for the household, and current metered utility bill (no matter the primary heating source). When you call the schedule your appointment a list of documentation needed will be given verbally over the phone. During the crisis component the household must be in a crisis situation.
Subsidy- Anyone can apply for subsidy as long as they meet the income requirement and have all of the required documentation. There is no crisis situation needed. You will need to call your local outreach office to schedule an appointment.
Crisis- Those clients who have received a disconnect on their electric or natural gas may apply. Those clients who are within 4 days of running out of wood, propane, or kerosene may also call their local outreach office to schedule that appointment. These clients will also need to meet the income guidelines and have the proper documentation.
